Family History

Hello my name is Grant Lahr and I am doing a project on my family history. To gather this information I interviewed two people, my Grandpa from my dad's side and my mom. to gather this information I asked questions like; what was your mom's maiden name? And what where then names of your grandparents? I was surprised at some of the results I got. Using this information I created this Family Echo. This Family tree shows all of the generations in both sides of my family. I also sent a parent email to my mom asking her for information and here is what I found Parent Email. I asked her questions like; What does your last name mean and what nationality are you? I created this Prezi below to go into further explanation members.

My name is Grant Lahr and I did a project on my family history. I interviewed my grandpa Lahr and my mom  and asked about their sides of the Family Interview. Using all this information I gathered I was able to go back in my families generations and I was able to make a  Family Echo based on these interviews.      

I thought this video was very deep and well tought out by the speaker. It was a message to all people thses days who stare at a computer screen of a phone all day and have no idea about all the opportunities that they are missing out on. All the real human interaction they miss becuase they were too buzy with electronics. Like demonstraitd in the viedo, electronics dont make you happy. People make you happy. It is now a major problem these days that people even at a young age are becoming lesss and less social with one another. They would rather just text or tweet or email rather than face to face interaction. Like the guy in the beginning of the video he said he had like over 400 friends but then again he had no friends.

Read THIS blog post by a teacher. I mean actually read it. Take it in. Think about it. And then, write about it. What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is.

I think this teacher really  think strongly about this topic and has lost of backround knowlage to back up what they say. It seems like the author of this article has been in sutuations like what he talks about in this article. And in the end it is like a letter to me telling me what is right and wrong and how the world works.

What is your idea for your stop-motion animation? Explain yourself. Have you started taking photos? If not, when do you plan to take your photos? What is your action plan for today? What is your plan to GET SOMETHING DONE? 


My idea is to have someone walk around on the screen. I have not started taking photos yet. I plan to start taking my photos as soon as we get into the hall to get something done today I will try to take some pictures.

What is stop motion animation? If you don't know, look it up! Explain.

 

Stop motion animation is when one takes many pictures as an object moves so every picture is slightly different then the last. When all the pictures are put together it apears to be like a video. All the different pictures come together to make it look as if the picture was moving.

Infographic

Prepare yourself... I want you to really THINK about this blog post. I mean really use your brain. What is the significance of an infographic? What is the point of pairing graphics and information together? What impact can this have on a reader or viewer. EXPLAIN.

The significance of an infographic is to display information in a number of ways. The first is the traditional way of words and explanations. The second way is through pie graphs, x and y axis graphs, various different types and designes of charts. this is helpful because readers can see what percentage or chunk it makes up. And the final way that infographics stick out from all other types is they have symboles and images that get to the the readers emotions.

If you had the option of writing a 3 page paper or creating an infographic - which one would you choose? Explain yourself.

If I had to choose I would defenetly choose to do an  infographic for sure.  They seem easier to make and alot less information needs to be actually typed because you can just use visuals to demonstrate the information instead of typing that much.

How far along are you on your infographic? Will you be finished and ready to embed on to your blog by the end of the hour today? Do you think you've used your time wisely in class? Explain yourself.

If I had to rate myself on how I have done in class for the infographics I would say I have been on task most of the time with a few focus slips every once and a while and i am still kind of trying to find out how to use pictochart because I am not use to this kind of presentation.

Why do I have you brainstorm and collect your information in a Google Doc before putting in to final draft? Explain.

Brian stormimg before a draf is always important because it is a good way to establish all of your thoughts and ideas before putting them down on the final piece. The reason for the google doc is to get the information down.

Yesterday I introduced you to infographics... tell me again what they are and how they are used? What is the benefit of an infographic? What goes into an infogrpahic?Also, go out and see if you can find an already existing infographic on your global issue. Save the image to your computer and upload the image into your blog post for today. Save the source link to the image so that you can site the image in your blog post. See my examples at the end of this post.

An infographic is a differnt way of presenting information about any topic.  Instead of wring an essay or paper, it is a way of communication information through visual pictures and things such as graphs, charts,tables (ect).

My Global Issue

My global issue was about the water pollution problem that is caused due to human activity of burning fossil fuels. This problem affects every living thing on this planet because it makes even rain water no longer safe to drink.

Where are you at with your 5 paragraph essay so far? How is it coming? Is it easy to write? Difficult to write? Is it helpful that you created an outline first? Explain.

So far I am three paragraphs in to my essay. It is coming along very well. Not too difficult to write. And the outline was helpful because i was able to look back and see where all my ideas came from.

Tell me about your Sweetheart weekend. If you didn't go to Sweetheart, what did you do? I want details!

This Sweetheart weekend I went to Sweetheart at Kyoto and had a rec basketball game which we lost.  Other than that I pretty much just sat around and then i had to go to my older cousins Birthday Party which was a taco party and taco's are good.

Who do you look up to in life? Why? What have they done to help you or guide you?

The person I look up to in life is my dad. he is always there to help me and I have always been that way. Ever since I was a little kid I have thought he was the greatest person I knew.

Tell me about the global issue you selected yesterday. Briefly restate your paragraph from yesterday.

 Yesterday i chose water pollution because water is a critical part of all life and we need it to survive. There are many people in this world who don't have access to clean drinkable water.

If you could pick one issue in the world to fix or change what would it be and why?

If I could change one problem in this world today it would be the terrorist problem. The terrorist in this world today like Al-Kida have killed way too many innocent people and that is the group that planned      9/11 and started the war over in Afghanistan.  

What is a Public Service Announcement? If you don't know what it is, Google it. In your own words, now tell me what it is? What are they used for? Can you recall an example of a PSA you've seen before?

A public service announcement is a statement made openly in interest to the public explaining a specific issue or idea to the public explain the idea and can be backed up with evidence.

Tell me about your three day weekend. How was it? What did you do? Elaborate!

My weekend was very lazy because my parents and mt sister were out at the Sprint Center every day for my little sister's volleyball tournament. So with them gone i pretty much just sat around and watched T.V and had a basketball game which I completely forgot about.

What have you learned about Google Drive and Google Presentation so far? What do you like about it? What problems have you run in to? Is it better than PowerPoint? Explain.

I have learned that it can be a very useful tool and is quite easy to work with because when you bring up Google drive all of your past presentations are listed and accessible. Have only run into one problem with Google drive so far and that is, I have a very hard time finding out how to get pictures onto the presentation. 

Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it."

I very much agree with this statement because when something is posted on the internet that means that the poster is aware that once it goes out there it stays. No matter what they do what they have just put out there is for everyone to see. So if someone were to post something inappropriate then they must be aware that no matter what they do someone can screenshot that post and it is out there forever.

What do you want to learn in this class the semester? What information do you want to walk away with that you didn't know before? Elaborate!

I would like to learn more about the point of a blog and what the goal of it is. I really have no idea what it is or what you are supposed to do with them. I would also like to know more about computers and how one can use them in a business related fashion.



P.S. I am really bad at computers and have absolutely no idea what the heck I am doing!
